Looking for songs

I don't know if I've ever posted a request for song ideas before.  But I am now.

I want to do a mix of ambient songs by non-ambient artists.  My perfect example of this is "Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats" by Genesis.  I've used in mixes in the past and I'd like to find other songs that fit the criteria.  Something like Radiohead - Treefingers would work too.  There are probably strange little cuts buried on albums over the years that only real fans know about(like the Genesis tune).

So if anyone has any ideas please either leave them in the comments or email me.  Hopefully I can cobble together a mix of these tunes in the next few weeks.

Thanks!

An intriguing idea, you've got me thinking! "Night Sight" by AIR is quite lovely. "Headphones (Ø Remix)" by Björk is also amazing.

That's all I can think of for now, but I'll rack my brain and let you know if I come up with any others!

Best,
Vils

Nevermind, the songs don't match the Genesis song

I always thought that A Warm Place by Nine Inch Nails (from The Downward Spiral) is astoundingly beautiful compared to the rest of their usual output

What about David Bowie's 'Low' and 'Heroes'?
Side 2 of both albums features several instrumental pieces that might be what you're looking for.

There's a band called Course of Empire that has all their music up on their website for free download. There are a few songs from their Telepathic Last Words album that might fit your criteria....Plus, the rest of their stuff is just downright great late 90's alternative/industrial. http://www.courseofempire.com/mp3/

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but a few ideas off the top of my head:

UNKLE - Synthetic Water (piano version)
UNKLE - The Piano Echoes
Boards of Canada - The Smallest Weird Number
Boards of Canada - Over The Horizon Radar
Boards of Canada - Wildlife Analysis
Boards of Canada - Heard from Telegraph Lines

Both UNKLE and BOC are more known for electronic/idm/dancy type stuff than ambient, but there's a lot of crossover in electronic genres anyway...

Slowdive - Good Day Sunshine (from Souvlaki deluxe version)
New Order - Elegia (from Low Life)
Cut Copy - Eternity One Night Only (from In Ghost Colors)
Richard Hawley - Last Orders (from Coles Corner)
Japan - A Foreign Place (from Quiet Life)
Bowie - Weeping Wall (from Low, maybe a cheat as Eno produced)
The Chameleons - I'll Remember (from Strange Times)

To echo one Anon commenter, Boards Of Canada have a track called "Farewell Fire" on "The Campfire Headphase" LP that is completely Ambient, droney style. I really love it, and it'd work great as an intro and / or outro.

I am writing to you from Germany.., and first of all my compliments for the always enjoyable Mixes ! :-D

My suggestions would be the "Birdy" soundtrack by Peter Gabriel; "Rainbow Dome Musick" by Steve Hillage...

...and perhaps you'd like to drop in some early german electronic from Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze ?

Best regards,

Rec.Kid

The bands Low and the Dirty Three did an album together in which they covered "Down by the River" by Neil Young - very amazing.

Thanks for all you great suggestions.

The mix is done & I'll post it a day or two.

I used several cuts or artists recommended here. Some other suggestions will probably make their way into the next Sunday morning mix.

Thanks again!
