Low Light Spotlight - Max Richter

This is an exclusive mix available only to my subscribers on Mixcloud Select. It's part of an ongoing series of mixes that spotlight one artist for the entire mix. 

Max Richter's music is beautiful, evocative, haunting. He is one of my favorite artists of the 21st century. Although I didn't use it in this mix, On The Nature Of Daylight is one of my favorite pieces of music of all time. 

I had to start the mix with The Blue Notebooks because it is the album that introduced me to Richter's music and remains a huge favorite. My other huge fav in his discography is Sleep, a monumental album of more than 8 hours of modern classical sleep music. There are two tracks from Sleep in this mix.

Low Light Spotlight - William Basinski

This is the first mix in the Low Light Spotlight series. These mixes will be Mixcloud Select exclusives. So you have to subscribe to Mixcloud Select in order to listen to this mix. To regular visitors to this blog I'm sorry about making some of these mixes exclusive But it's the best way to drive traffic to the Select platform. And I'll still be uploading plenty of mixes right here.

This series will be mixes that each focus on a single artist. For this first entry I choose William Basinski - first because Disintegration Loops is one of the best ambient albums of all time and second because I've been listening to his latest release quite a bit.

This mix opens and closes with Disintegrations Loops dlp 1.1. But the version that appears at the end of the set is a terrific live performance on NPR by the Wordless Music Orchestra on the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11th attacks. Here's a link to the whole concert...

Mixcloud Select Exclusives

Today Mixcloud launches a new feature for Mixcloud Select subscribers - exclusive mixes.

For my first exclusive mix I am launching a series called Seasonal Cycles and the initial offering is "The Promise of Spring."

There are different ways Select creators can use exclusive mixes. I have chosen to produce several mix series that will be available exclusively to Mixcloud Select subscribes. This is what I have in the works:

1. Sleep Series(low light nightlight) - music for bedtime
2. Seasonal Cycles - music focused on weather & the seasons
3. Stargazing Sessions - music for laying outside and looking up at the stars, watching for meteors & satellites
4. Artist/Label Spotlight - concentrating on one artist/label and their music

Right now I'm not sure how many mixes there will be in each series. Though obviously for the seasonal mixes there will be at least one per season.
