Deep Ambient Explorations in an Alien Sea

This mix is the perfect combo of two of my favorite mix themes - sea/ocean motif and ambient dub. I wanted to make an ambient dub mix and while searching for tunes I ran across several that had that great ocean vibe that some ambient dub can have. Then a few more had this odd sort of alien quality to them so I decided on a mix of deep ambient dub that sounds like it should be played in the oceans of Jupiter's moon, Europa.

Mot of the tracks are fairly new, from the last few years. But there are some older tracks from 2013, 2012, and all the back to 2002. Everything combines for the perfect undersea exploration. I really love this one.

echospace

I am a big fan of ambient dub music. Especially the more atmospheric stuff from DeepChord, Rod Modell, Variant, cv313, Shorelights and more. I've made ambient dub mixes in the past and they are some of my favorites.

For this dubby mix I decided to focus on artists from the echospace [detroit] record label. Is echospace a label or an artist? I think it's both. And then there is Deepchord presents Echospace and Echospace [sounds] Presents, which confuses things even more. All I know is, I like the sounds that Echospace & Deepchord produce so I made a mix featuring those sounds.

Cheers!

A Foggy Winter's Dub

This mix is much more straightforward than the Antarctica set. This mix follows my "dubby & dreamy" formula of ethereal ambient dub tracks with a few gentle beats and lots of synth washes.

Here are the links to all the music used in this mix:

Dubstrates & Dreamstates

Ambient dub is one of my favorite sub-genres. I've done several "dubby & dreamy" mixes over the years. Such as:

http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2015/09/dubby-rainy.html
http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2016/05/dubscapes-seacapes.html
http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2013/01/dubscapes-dreamscapes.html
http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2012/02/dubby-noisy.html
http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2013/08/dub-transmissions.html
http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2010/12/subatomic-dubscapes.html
http://lowlightmixes.blogspot.com/2008/12/motion-for-relief.html

There could be a couple more mixes floating out there but those are the ones that I could recall.

This new mix follows in that same dubby/dreamy mode that I love. Also I have found that these ambient dub mixes work well as stargazing companions. So the timing for this one is good as the Perseid meteor shower is at it's peak tonight & tomorrow night.

Cheers!

dubby & rainy

I was planning on making a rain mix sometime this fall & I was planning on making a dub mix as well. Then I realized that those two theme as perfect for each other. So here is the appropriately titled mix "dubby & rainy."

I love how a lot of ambient dub tunes already sound sort of "rainy." They make liberal use of white noise which is great for conjuring a rainy atmosphere. So many of these tracks already sound & feel "rainy" that I didn't have to add much rain fx.

Enjoy

A Winter's Dub

I love dubby ambient. I think this is my third dub mix this year. I'm sure I'll grow tired of this style of music but for now I'm soaking it in. It was snowing while I made this mix & the music just seemed to fit the winter mood. Hence the name "A Winter's Dub."

Many of the tracks in this mix came from Bandcamp. As a matter of fact, all the links in the tracklist are to Bandcamp pages. I love Bandcamp. So easy & convenient. And great for discovering new music. I bought a bunch of stuff this year by following other folks & sampling we they buy.

Here is my Bandcamp collection for anyone that's interested.

Enjoy the dub!

dubby & dreamy

My son the dubstep DJ(he had nothing to do with the mix, but the pic went with the music).

Ambient dub, minimal dub, ambi-dub, whatever you want to call it, is something that I listen to every now & then. I like making mixes with this music because the tracks flow so well together.

I've done three previous dub mixes and while they are all laid back, this one may be more so. It collects some dubby cuts & weaves in some noise & washes of field recordings from the fantastic ambi-dub recording, "DeepChord presents Echospace - Liumin." The bonus cd for that album is all the field recordings that were the source material for the tracks on the other disc.

Not all the cuts are straight up dub tracks, but they do all fit together nicely. Almost all the tracks are new with the exception of the krill.minima & Plastikman tunes.

Enjoy.
