I love making shortwave/radio transmission mixes, so it's hard to believe it's been almost 11 years since my last new shortwave creation. Yikes! I know these mixes are labor intensive and I am a terrible procrastinator but I am shocked that it's been that long.
Here are the previous mixes:

This mix is a combo of real shortwave broadcasts, tracks that have broadcasts already embedded, and tracks that have that scratchy, radio feel. I couldn't resist adding a bit of Conet Project recordings here and there. Most of the straight radio broadcasts come from Myke Dodge Weiskopf. I've been using his recordings for years. You can find his stuff here - https://www.myke.me/
Two of my favorite cuts in this mix are by Mount Shrine from the album Shortwave Ruins. https://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/album/shortwave-ruins It's a perfect combo of ambience, drone, and radio chatter. Mount Shrine is Cesar Alexandre, who sadly passed away in 2021. His two tracks in this mix fit the vibe perfectly.
I hope you enjoy the washes of static and voices from the ether. Hopefully it won't be 11 years until the next shortwave mix.
Cheers!

Thanks so much for your very kind comment! It really makes me happy to learn that other folks love these shortwave mixes as much as I do. Thanks for listening. Cheers!
Frankly, there is not a real need to visit this market more often than every 10 years. Don’t get me wrong: the concept is genius, and engaging, but sustaining it for an hour is apparently out of reach, as we see here with the final runaway track "a la Seaman" where the base concept is abandoned to fill out the token hour. That leaves is in doubt as to whether this can all be done again in shorter order. The predecessor's outing struck a nerve with listeners on IRS, at its outset, as a new and remarkable electronic genre to be explored, even being triplicated in the line-up, but in the long-term, that faded, and eventually it sadly had to be removed from the repertoire not to dissuade new listeners.
But this effort is superior to the prototype being much more thoughtful in source variety, overlay technique, expansiveness, confidence, and "shortwave location recordings". And we all know what a master of location record overlaying David is. Hopefully this reincarnation will span the test of time (albeit once the end fat is trimmed), as it has made discretionary use of "motif ambient". Praise be.
Also on the very positive side, real encouragement in the form of a actual, real, honest-to-goodness mix is seen (forced) here by the short shortwave excerpts: a refreshing change in stark contrast to what has become now typically a string of back-to-back full length tracks "presented" as a "mix" leaving the listener to die out in hyperspace for 5 to 11 minutes at a whack. The shortwave "shorties" have ensured only a few items overstay their welcome, which is a preferred and characteristic attribute for a mix. Great job shorties!
Also a great mix characteristic is seamless transitions, and here Dave has outdone himself in blending pre-existing music with acoustic odds and ends to make us an unforgettable fluid journey.
